The Volkswagen Multivan T7 Debuts With More Versatility And Hybrid Power.
The next generation Volkswagen Multivan in development for years. Volkswagen much loved all purpose van for everything from contractors to adventurous campers.
The biggest news for the next generation van is its next generation powertrain. The Multivan gets a plug in hybrid powertrain. Called e Hybrid, it combines a 1.4 liter TSI engine with an 85 kilowatt electric motor to generates a total of 215 horsepower. A 13 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery is mounted low under the van floor with the charging port located on the right side. Volkswagen does not yet have stats for electric only speed or range, instead the Multivan is capable of short urban trips. Power for the e Hybrid is handled exclusively by a six speed DSG transmission.
Volkswagen continues to offer pure internal combustion power. The buyers can choose between either a turbocharged 1.5 liter TSI mill making 134 horsepower or a beefier turbocharged 2.0 liter TSI engine with 201 horsepower. Both engines burn gasoline though a four cylinder turbo diesel with 148 horsepower will be offered next year. Regardless of the engine a seven speed DSG is the only transmission available.
Pricing and availability for other regions will be announced at a later date.
